Beijing Kao Ya (roast duck) the Beijing Way

I fell in love all over again with Peking Duck when I was in Beijing last year. They do it rather differently from the restaurants in Singapore and Hong Kong. And when I realised that there is a Quan Jude in Hong Kong, I knew I had to go.

The ambience isn't great. It's like your typical chinese restaurant in HK, catering to large groups of families all there to get their weekend yum cha fix. So you can imagine the noise level as a result of all the gossip-swapping.

In any case, the Peking Duck was good. It wasn't quite the standard you'd get in the top duck restaurants in Beijing but it's close and is definitely the way that it's done in Beijing; light golden brown skin with zilch meat on it. There are of course restaurants in HK that also specialise in Peking Duck but if you want your duck the Beijing way, Quan Jude is the place to go (at least to my knowledge). In addition to that, we also had dan dan mian, xiao long bao. These 2 were surprisingly rather good too.
