Dropped pastries resold?

Happened to be waiting at the hand-phone shop opposite this outlet. Saw one of their workers dropped a tray of pastries. He scooped up the pieces and returned to the kitchen. Lo and behold, he came back after a few minutes and displayed 4 pieces of the same variety of pastry, 2 pieces of which had the edges broken off. The broken pieces left on the floor were an exact fit to that of the broken corners displayed in the tray. Would not be surprised if such practices are the norm at this outlet.

Lam Mee - Kicks SG's Lor Mee's Ass!

This, is my favourite brunch item of all time.

I'd always order the Lam Hor Fun here. Think well-blanched noodles coated in a thick, savoury sauce not unlike that of your oyster-sauce vegetables topped with pork and chicken shreds and a generous sprinkling of fresh prawn slices. There's no way to describe this but everything in this dish just goes together perfectly - any one item missing and it'll be incomplete. You'll just have to try it to understand what I mean.

I'm not a fan of fishballs. In fact, I pretty much dislike them. But the fishballs here are different. Greyish in colour instead of the usual clinical white, these fishballs taste closer to their more flavourful meatball cousins and go perfectly well with their special chilli mix.

The Fried Sui Kow is crunchy with a very generous portion of fried dumpling skin, perfect for a pastry/dough person like me. After years of experimentation, I conclude that the best way to eat this is to completely drench it in the Lam Mee sauce, even squishing and releasing it to get more sauce absorbed if you have to, such that in one bite, you enjoy the crunchiness of the Sui Kow mixed with the salty, savoury sauce.v
That, all washed down with a glass of Iced Barley - as Russell Peters would say, "sooo goot!"

Must Tries: Lam Hor Fun, Fried Sui Kow, Fish Balls

coffeeshop hawker fare

Visited on a Sunday night, and was drizzling. The place was abuzz with activities and there are many stacks of dishes on the floor. Probably they need more helpers. Ambience is coffee shop like.

Wanted to try char kway teow but it was indicated to be 20 mins waiting time, so opted for the other dishes which was presumed to be made in shorter time such as rojak, curry mee and rice dish which I can't recall the name.

The rojak was nice with juicy fruits which included the usual suspects like mango, pineapple, turnip, cucumber. The curry mee was lukewarm at best. But it did have my favourite cockles. Other ingredients include fishball, prawns and mint leaves. But I thought Penang curry mee was supposed to be spicy?

The rice dish came with chicken braised in soy sauce (with 1 mushroom),a side dish of ju hu char (cuttlefish and cooked turnip shreds) and sambal petai. The sambal tasted burnt and a little bitter.

Ordered also the bat bo leong char, but it tasted funny. Kinda peppery.

Must Tries: rojak

misadventure

Remembered the shop for their springy noodles way back in 2005/2006, so dragged my friends along to try it again recently.

Standard has definitely dropped. The noodles was less springy, but it was still tasty. We ordered shrimp dumpling noodles soup and dry, a char siew noodle with wanton (no char siew wanton combo so the wanton was treated as a separate order of extra charge of $3). Noodles here costs around $7+ per plate. We also had some dim sum such as chicken feet ($5) and spare ribs ($6). Drinks, we had lime plum juice ($5.50), ice lemon tea ($5.50) and chinese tea ($1.50). Definitely, expensive.

Service was poor and inadequate. One order of shrimp dumpling noodles soup was missed out and had to remind them 2 times before it was brought over. But the ultimate disaster was when the trainee waiter dropped the bowl of soup onto my friend's bag!! He just stood there and didn't do anything till we glared at him, and he mumbled 'Sorry.' Had to ask him to bring over paper towels to soak up the soup...

The restaurant didn't offer any any sweetener, except to check if the offending party has apologized when we feedback to them the incident.

expensive local fare

Heard about Madam Kwan's and happened to be at Mid-Valley, so went in to try.

One thing that stands out when we first walked in was, how dark the place was.

Ordered nasi lemak and char kway teow. Both came out in decent portion, and shared by 3 girls. The nasi lemak rice was fragrant and fluffy, with meaty chicken rendang. Char kway teow was well-fried and tasty.

But at an average price of $15 per plate, one could've gotten similar quality elsewhere in greater quantity.

Madam Kwan is possibly a touristy thing to do, while in KL.

Better than Fish & Co.

I have never tried Manhattan Fish Market in Singapore. Always wanted to try but did not have a chance.

I chance upon Manhattan Fish Market in KL before heading back to Singapore. Since was thinking where should we have lunch at. My KL friend used to work there and claims that the hygiene of the restaurant is rather poor but food is nice. Hack it, as look as it is nice and no body dies from eating it. I used to eat road side hawker stall in KL and bangkok, never did i have diahorrea.

We ordered 1 pacific Dory fish and chips, 1 Flame platter, 1 Green Mussels and Garlic bread with 2 soups of the day. Every thing was better than i have expected. The best of all it is in RM. Total bill came up to RM76.60 only.

Disappointment buffet dinner

After reviewing forums of malaysia food and dinning, tried Gobo Chit Chat at Traders Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Having travelled to Kuala Lumpur quite frequently, do not have the time to have a decent buffet dinner. Went with a KL friend to traders after doing some research.

The buffet dinner is priced at RM68++ per pax. More of a seafood and asian buffet. Sushimi was offered, salmon, tuna and octopus. Oysters and prawns were fresh. Salad are available. Cooked food station with roast beef and lamp, satays, pasta ect. The cooked food section nothing is nice in my point of view. Seriously, if not for the fresh seafood and sashimi, it would have been really awful.

Ordered 2 fruit juice to go along. The bill comes to RM193.20. Not worth the money. It is not expensive, but i would rather pay more and dine at green house in singapore.

Good

Usual spot in sunway piramid outlet. Not as good as some well-establish japanese authentic restaurant but not as bad as sushi king. Their salad shasimi is a must try, their sauce is my craving part. Their sushi is not that bad either, seem people like to eat here, as it always full. The value is good for such food quality. When you not much money but want to eat good japanese food. You can consider this.

Must Tries: Salad Shasimi

Fresh Ingredient

Nice setting, you might thought you are in Tokyo restaurant. There some pretty chics and japanese people dine here. Their shashimi is so fresh until you feel the meat crunchiness that we seldom experience. Their salad shashimi is other nicies i adore. They also offer fine dinning experience, :-) my 1st time fine dinning is there, dress nicely and wait one course by one course, you appreciate their arts and eat slowly, while chit-chat, last me 2-3 hours. Nice for those who like to made good conversation while eat. I am lucky to eat with culinary student, so he so all the talking most of the time. My gf is pretty too, nice to hear good topics, see pretty chics and eat nice-looking food.
