| Dropped pastries resold?
Happened to be waiting at the hand-phone shop opposite this outlet. Saw one of their workers dropped a tray of pastries. He scooped up the pieces and returned to the kitchen. Lo and behold, he came back after a few minutes and displayed 4 pieces of the same variety of pastry, 2 pieces of which had the edges broken off. The broken pieces left on the floor were an exact fit to that of the broken corners displayed in the tray. Would not be surprised if such practices are the norm at this outlet. |

| Worth the Wait
Rumoured that these 3 joint owners were previously from Country Kitchen who ventured out to start their own. This is a nice place if you want some Cantonese style food with good generous portions and without burning a hole in your pocket.
There is usually a large crowd on weekends and reservation is recommended. Otherwise, you may have a long wait or find yourself sitting on the walkway having your dinner.
There appears to be no set menu at this restaurant and patrons have high regard on the recommendations made. During this time, the person taking orders would take into consideration the number of diners and allocate the dishes accordingly. They are professional enough not to recommend only the pricey dishes and gives good recommendation on a balanced meal. I have also never experienced any form of over ordering.
Many a times, I have always considered their recommendations of the various special dishes available and they have never disappointed. As such, there are no dishes that stand out as they are all equally good. Service is prompt and attentive despite the crowd.
A meal of fish, meat, vege, tofu with rice and tea for 4 would cost less than RM100. |

| Chicken, Chicken Everywhere
Went to this place several times over the years. Used to enjoy this place when the price of the buffet was about RM15-00. Now it has risen to about RM20-00 per head. For this price, it is still worth the money eating at this place, but only if you are into chicken. This place,as the name implies, serves all types of chicken. Fried crispy chicken, spicy crispy chicken, roast chicken, fried chicken fillet, fried livers and gizzards and even tomyam chicken wings. You can even choose the chicken parts that you like.
Usually two types of chicken based soups are available. They have also added some chinese style cooking of late like the chicken with bitter gourd and some stir fried vegetables to go with white rice. Of course, there are the usual cole slaw, salads and whipped potato.
One can also enjoy carbonated drinks or coffee/tea which is bottomless. For deserts, there is the usual ice cream and some butter cakes, which has always appeared stale each time I visit. Could be due to the low demand of these items after a heavy indulgence in a chicken feast.
Be warned however that there is a 2 hours limit for you to enjoy this buffet. I have never stayed that long so I would not really know what the management will do if you do exceed the time limit there.
Overall, if you like chicken and could not decide whether to go KFC or Kenny R, then this place will give you the best of both worlds and more. |

| House specialty - Monosodium Glutamate Soup
This noodle house also serve rice. You could have your Hong Kong style roast meat of pork, chicken or duck with noodles (dry or soup) or with white rice. Side dishes include wantons and other forms of meat filled pastries. Portions are generous. But don't drink too much of the soup. It is steeped with flavour enhancer. You will get a insatiable thirst after your meal.
Service is fast and the waiters are courteous. They are well versed with their menu offerings and their recommendations are worth considering.
Overall, a value for money meal but give the soup a miss. Order their variety of herbal drinks to quench your thirst. |

Ever experienced being given the wrongly order in a restaurant, not once but repeatedly? If you are a glutton for punishment, this is the place to be. I have had 3 consecutive experiences on 3 consecutive Sundays. Firstly, an order of a quarterpounder was exchanged for a cheese burger. Secondly, 2 milk shakes were exchanged for 2 cokes and on the third Sunday, a whole quarter pounder was excluded. Such mistakes seems to be frequent when you order through the Drive Thru. Perhaps, they think it is inconvenient to drive all the way back to exchange the wrong orders, which it is, as you have to make a big u-turn at the Bandar Tun Razak traffic lights of about 3 kilometers. Funny thing though, they have never once made a mistake by giving away a more expensive item.
Food wise, this is typical fast food where the adverts target the young and susceptible. If not for the children, I would not eat it even if I have to go hungry the whole day. |

| Rude! Rude! Rude! And it's the Captain.
A place for halal Chinese food. Tasty but be prepared to fork out a premium for the food. But do I really need to pay the service charge if the service is non existent? Never mind the waiters and waitresses who could hardly understand even Cantonese but speaks Mandarin, the heavily accented type from northern China. The Captain, a Malaysian, was downright rude. Takes orders as though the patrons cannot afford their selections. |

| Good Value for Money
One would have thought that their fried chicken would taste the same at every outlet. Well, they're not. In my many years of patronising KFC, I have found that the food offered have slight differences in taste. Even the chicken pieces appears bigger at some outlets.
This is quite a new outlet and being ringed by their sister outlets at Tm Pertama, Tm Connaught and Tm Maluri (Jusco), one does not have a long wait at this outlet to get their finger licking goodness.Unless, there is a sports function at the KL Stadium.
What strikes ones attention at this outlet is that the staffs are friendly and obliging. You can pick your chicken parts which you so desire and they will oblige willingly. The portions seems bigger as compared to some other nearby outlets. |

| Just follow the crowd.
This is the only one EK outlet that also sells Nam Heong chicken rice. A nice combination what with you can try the best of both worlds; Shanghainese food and Hainanese chicken rice.
I found the food from Esquire the same as with any other of their outlet as the main dishes are prepared from a central kitchen. You could also order chicken rice and get it delivered into the restaurant as both the outlets shares the same owners. Whilst the chicken rice was given top marks, the beef brisket soup was a disaster. The whole bowl of soup comprised of 2 pieces of boiled 'lobak', 3 pieces of beef tripe and another 3 pieces of beef brisket. All that for RM10. The soup was tasteless as the meat flavours have not infused into the soup. Barring the soupy incident, it was a pleasant meal as the other dishes were all within expectations. |

| Deflated food at Inflationary prices
Returned to this restaurant after a few years absence. I was probably influenced by their glib adverts on how good their food were without burning a hole in your pocket. At the end of the meal, I should have stuck to my tried and tested notion that the ad-men are merely good at selling dreams.
On the whole, there was not much to complain on the food. It was alright by any standard, a minimum expectation on the quality would help though.
For the prices, the quantity served was measly to say the least. RM20-00 for a chicken chop with some boiled vege of peas, carrots and corn and some fries. RM45 for a small piece of salmon with a small of piece of beef. RM60 for half a frozen 'baby' lobster and a half piece of chicken chop. The portions were so small that my whole family had to stop by at Jalan Peel on the way home to have some beef noodles!!
Service was so-so, the captain looked impatient when we were comtemplating going for oxtail or seafood chowder soup. In the end, we opted for both as we could sense that he was about to walk off without taking our orders. Apart from that incident, the other waiters were pleasant and attentive enough.
Overall, nothing much to shout about. One can have the same food at any roadside or shophouse western food stall at less than half the price. |

| A big letdown.
Visited the outlet last weekend. Went early so getting a table was not a problem. The last time I went to Madam Kwan's was at KLCC about 2 years ago. Wanted to see if the signature dishes taste just as good.
My family ordered 2 nasi lemaks and 2 nasi bojari. For drinks, we went for something safe, iced lemon tea and bubur cha-cha.
The nasi lemak was still delicious but the portions have shrunken. Two pieces of curry chicken with more bones than meat hardly justifies the RM14 price tag.
As for the nasi bojari, not much to complain on the fried chicken although the side was over fried and the meat was dry but was well marinated. The beef rendang was obviously a rush job. The santan (coconut milk) was probably cooked in high heat to hasten the cooking process. You could smell the coconut oil in the rendang instead of the aromatic santan and spices. For RM20 a plate, I would have expected a better prepared dish since it was their signature dish.
The ice lemon tea tastes just like iced water. No smell of tea and certainly no smell of any lemon. The only option was that you are allowed to add sugar syrup to the iced mixture on your own accord. At RM6 per glass, I would have had 4 glasses of better tasting ones at any mamak stall.
The bomb of the meal would be the bubur cha-cha, a signature dessert of the restaurant. What they did was they first boiled the sweet tapioca and yam seperately. Nothing wrong with that as any recipe book will teach you that. But this restaurant took a short cut after this process. They scooped the tapioca and yam into the bowl and the added boiled (warmed?) santan and sago into the bowl and served it as bubur cha-cha. What gave it away was that the tapioca was steeped in the smell of ginger and that the tapioca tastes much sweeter than the soup, an indication that it was not slow boiled in the santan.
The whole meal cost about RM140-00 inclusive of a 10 percent service charge and a 5 percent sales tax. The only saving grace was that they offered plain water, iced or warm, to every diner free of charge. |
